 Happy Halloween!!

Today was so much better at work. I got to actually get trained some, Nancy (who's place I'm taking) was there and we visited a lot and talked about work a little. Tomorrow and Thursday will be really good, a lot of stuff to do and time to train.
Now, we are home, and the trick or treaters are coming in packs! They are so so cute. all saying something like trick or treat in German and then all "danke shune!!" one said "oooh, tweex!!" cause we have Twixs. hehehe. SB is still in uniform, so one said, "ah, Army man!!" and then one almost came in the house gawking at the television! We have candles out on the porch in a line to the door Just want to be sure they know we are here. And have CANDY!! We had 2 bags, and now we are down to about 8. Once they are gone, we'll have to kill the candles and any evidence that we are here. We could run to the store for more...but everyone's closed!!
Going to see about some tacos for dinner~
BOO!

 First day...sort of.

First day to get up and shower and dress nice and wear makeup starting at 5am. Except that the watch/alarm went off at 4am. Argh. 's ok, though, I have some kind of pinch or pull in my neck/shouler, so that gave me some time to get up slowly. Get to post (615), go to Burger King to waste one hour. Go to Volunteer Duty Station (730). Nancy (whose job I want and will be training me) out sick. She MAY be in at 1pm. OK, so I go listen to the brief for the soldiers, figuring that way I can kind of see what they're doing that I'll be helping with. The supervisor person had told me to hang out with the admissions people who clearly don't want me in there while they are trying to check their email, see how their fantasy football teams are doing etc. SO, I go listen to the brief, and then head over to turn in my volunteer paperwork (830ish). That lady, also out. So I visit with the IACs person. She does IDs for people, etc. She's nice. Then I go see what Stephen's doing (900). He actually has work to do, and has to go get a flu shot at 930. So I go back and sit in Nancy's office for a while. IACs Marissa comes in. We talk a few more minutes, and now the library has opened, so here I am.
All in all a very uneventful morning. Since I have been in the library (10-1045), I have self-nominated (applied for) 3 jobs. One is the one I am volunteering for, the posting is up now. The other two are actually permanent jobs (whereas Nancy's is a one year temp gig). I'd be happy with any of them. I'm going to look for a book to check out, and read a magazine until lunchtime. That's 45 minutes...Hope all is well in your world today.

 the groceries

I just got back from LiDL grocery store. I guess it was successful. It took me a while to find the milk, since it doesn't look like ours, and I still haven't tasted it yet, but I'm hoping it isn't buttermilk. I got some bread, and it feels pretty hard. Never did find the eggs. But I did find some cottage cheese that I'm about to eat.
SO, for 1 liter of milk, one loaf of bread, and I guess about a cup of cottage cheese I spent 1.63 euro.
and the store is about a 7 minute walk.

LiDL

the English version.

the good, the bad and the early

So...up today at 5:15. That is SO harsh. We went to post, I did laundry and had a dr appt (just a checkup) and then an hour in the library, lunch with Stephen and a meeting with the lady who welcomes all the soldiers and families and briefs them, sets their inprocessing schedules, and also handles outprocessing. She is a super sweet lady. We saw her at the Hail and Farewell dinner thing last week when they announced that she would be leaving her position to be the secretary at the high school. I told her how sad I was that she was not going to be doing that job anymore because she really does a great job. She said, kind of laughing, "you want my old job?" I said, YES I DO! So we sat down to talk about it today.

Good news: I'm going to be getting up at 5:15 starting Monday!
Bad news: Not getting paid.

It is a volunteer gig for a while. I hate to not get paid for a few weeks, maybe even a month or two. But it is really a good way to get in the door. If I am volunteering, when the resumes come down from CPAC (Civilian Personnel something or other) they'll chose me because I already know the job. If, for some reason, I don't make it into this position, I'll have spent some time networking and getting to know people in other depts and finding out what else is out there and open. I really want this one, but not going to count on it.

The other news is...
Good: I'll be forced to go to the gym and workout each morning!
Bad: I'll be forced to go to the gym and workout each morning!
Because to sit in the Burger King and have breakfast and read the paper everyday would be a HORRIBLE misuse of the time!

Stephen says HI!
